How a Wiki Works

Hey folks Simon here.  I thought I would take a moment to introduce you to the idea of wikis and Wikiclay in particular.

A wiki is a resource of information jurried by those that use it.

  • Anyone can write thier own article
  • Anyone can edit any article
  • You need not seek permission to submit

Given those rules there are several things that will make Wikiclay more relaible and usable.

  • Consistant format.
  • Bibliographic citings
  • Links to other articles within Wikiclay
  • Links to other resources on the web

Traditionally wikis have been uncategorized.   In that way they are like encyclopedia.  We have added some general categories to clay wiki to help sort what we think will be popular information.  It does mean that people submiting articles should choose the category that best fits their topic.

We have added some features that are kind of fun ways to find hidden treasures on Wikiclay.  Lloyd's favorite is the the Random Article link.  You can also search on any term.

So click around and have fun.  Please contribute if you see something missing, or want to share a resource you think might help others.   We look forward to hearing from you.

It should be noted that articles about yourself rather than your knowlege are generally considered SPAM (Self Promotional Attempts at Marketing).   Please refrain!  If wikiclay becomes a source of these articles it lessesns the value of a wiki, no-one will use it, and the vain attempts will be in vain.

Oh, you also might see some notes from our moderators, asking for more information.   This is an invitation for the author or you, or both to help flesh out each entry.  Wikiclay is a community knowlege site, it grows with what you know.  Our moderators are Kristen Kieffer, Simon Levin and Lloyd Cledwyn.
